DuPont Corian and Seamless Design

Corian is the registered trade mark and brand name of the French manufacturer ‘DuPont’ (E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company). Corian is a solid surface material composed of alumina trihydrate and acrylic polymer.

Corian can be formed by heating, which allows individual shapes and designs to be created. It is used mainly as a solid surface material for kitchen worktops and is also widely used for bathroom surfaces and shower cubicle surfaces.

Corian has a totally non-porous quality and is therefore Corian useful in specialist environments, such as hospitals, laboratories and other places where hygiene and non-absorbency is a important factor when building surfaces. It is also widely used in restaurants and commercial catering environments.

Corian can be joined, shaped and formed into a wide variety of end products. It comes in over 100 colours and styles. Corian is distributed in either 12mm or 6mm thickness sheets and is only available though a network of approved fabricators and distributors.

During fabrication, joints can be made invisible by joining the relevant pieces with colour coded acrylic epoxy. Pieces may be clamped and bonded together and excess epoxy adhesive may be sanded when dry and then polished to create a totally seamless design.
